The Power to Create Change

Environmental change and human impacts across the Northern Hemisphere are placing salmon at risk. As conditions change, we need more responsive and efficient approaches to understand and respond to the effects.

While the challenges we face across the Northern Hemisphere are shared, there are limited connections between the people who can address those challenges. We hope to bring together a legacy of knowledge, tools and a new generation of scientists and decision-makers empowered to sustain salmon and the ecosystems they depend on. At the same time we want to see an increase in the people who understand the significance of salmon and the challenges they face.

Events

Help spread awareness about events in your country that contribute to salmon protection, restoration, conservation, and education. Coming together to raise global awareness about the state of salmon and the effort by individuals and organizations to establish resilience for salmon and people in a changing world is more important than ever. Individuals and organizations are invited to put on their own International Year of the Salmon events and outreach activities. Anything from talks, stream cleanups, storytelling, art, music and more!

Projects

If you’re involved in a project that will help the International Year of the Salmon achieve our vision – to ensure that salmon and people are resilient in a changing world – we’d like to hear from you! Please contact us to get the word out about your research projects, so that we can continue to work together and build awareness in the face of an uncertain future. Anything from dancing, storytelling, cooking, art, music, talks, stream cleanups and more!

Be the Difference

Human activities continue to impact salmon, with many stocks now at critical levels – but it’s not too late. Continued input from experts is needed but it will take the passion and commitment of people from all walks of life to make the difference.
