COVID-19 Recommendations and Guidelines

On behalf of the International Year of the Salmon, we welcome you to the 2022 Synthesis Symposium at the Westin Bayshore hotel, Vancouver, Canada. We are extremely excited to be gathering in-person given the recent world health situation. With the COVID-19 pandemic ongoing, we are taking all the necessary precautions to create a safe and comfortable environment for all our guests. The proceeding of the symposium will strictly adhere to the Marriott Westin Bayshore company policy, the British Columbia provincial guidelines, and the Canadian federal guidelines on COVID-19, summarised below.  

The Westin Bayshore Guidelines

  • The Westin Bayshore Vancouver by the Marriott is committed to providing you with a safe environment that aligns with expert protocols for working to defeat COVID-19. See Marriott’s Commitment to Clean and Meeting Events Policy to learn more about what to expect during your time at the hotel. 
  • Face masks and hand sanitizer will be available on the days of the event for any guest to use.
  • Sanitation wipes are available in both ballrooms during the event. All wireless microphones will be wiped down between users.
  • COVID-19 Rapid Testing kits are available in limited quantity at the hotel. Please ask a member of our staff about getting a test kit. Testing kits are also available at any BC pharmacy free of charge. 

British Columbia Provincial Guidelines

  • There are currently no restrictions on personal or organized gatherings of any size in BC
  • Wearing masks in public indoor settings is not required. Individual businesses and event organizers can still choose to continue requiring masks on their premises. 
  • The BC government encourages everyone to continue using prevention tools, including frequent hand washing, physical distancing, the use of face masks, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, and taking safety precautions when travelling. 
  • If you test positive for COVID-19 and  
    • Are fully vaccinated, you must self-isolate for at least 5 days from the onset of your symptoms, or from the test date, until your fever has resolved, and symptoms have improved.  
    • Are not fully vaccinated, you must self-isolate for at least 10 days from the onset of your symptoms, or from the test date, until your fever has resolved, and symptoms have improved.

Canada Entry Requirements

  • Starting October 1, 2022, all COVID-19 border requirements, including vaccination, mandatory use of ArriveCAN, and any testing and quarantine/isolation requirements will end for all travelers entering Canada whether by land, air or sea.  
  • Although the masking requirement is being lifted, all travellers are strongly recommended to wear high quality and well-fitted masks during their journeys. Please follow the official government’s website for most up-to-date information. 
  • Entry requirements can vary depending on nationality, COVID-19 vaccination status, and reason for entry. Find out what is required for you when entering Canada.
