The Minho River Aquamuseum has worked to promote the the natural and ethnographic heritage associated with artisanal fisheries of the Minho River since it opened its doors to the public in 2005.

In addition to partnerships in projects undertaken with Portuguese and Galician institutions, including universities and research centers, the Aquamuseum's mission is to disseminate scientific information on the current state of knowledge in Minho River basin to the general public, students, teachers, researchers, fishermen, local authorities, etc. The Iberian Symposium on the Minho River basin, which happens every second year and brings participants together from both countries to promote discussion on natural resources within the region, is one of the ways to achieve this objective.

The role of the Minho River Aquamuseum to promote knowledge as a unifying element of information and to make it available to different local actors has been strengthened in the regional context, and has been reflected at the national level.

Completed or ongoing dissemination projects, covering different themes within the watershed of the Minho River, promote discussion on the management of natural resources and raise awareness of the importance of preserving biodiversity associated with the Minho River.

The Iberian Symposium themes are as follows: I. Natural resources * Ecosystem estuarine and limnologic * Water quality and sediment * Forests * Physical resources, biological and geological; II. human activity * Fisheries and aquaculture * * Leisure Agriculture and the Environment * Pollution III.; Management * Spatial planning and nature conservation * Portuguese-Spanish cooperation * Share of municipalities and local communities * Legislation and environment; and IV. Environmental education.

Here, where the salmon go the southernmost in the Atlantic northeast, the presentation "Atlantic Salmon: a bridge between Minho and Galicia?" will be an invitation to both regions from Portugal and Spain to embrace all questions related to Atlantic salmon, including in the IYS in 2019. The Migra Miño-Minho Project, which is already one of the bridges concerning diadromous species between Minho and Galicia, will be presented at the event.

O Aquamuseu do Rio Minho, desde a sua abertura ao público em 2005, tem vindo a desenvolver um trabalho de divulgação do património natural e etnográfico associado à pesca artesanal do rio Minho.

Para além das parcerias em projectos, levadas a cabo com instituições portuguesas e galegas, nomeadamente Universidades e Centros de Investigação, o Aquamuseu tem por missão divulgar a informação científica, dando a conhecer ao público em geral, a estudantes, a professores, a investigadores, a pescadores, às autoridades locais, entre outras, o conhecimento actual sobre a investigação e os estudos realizados na bacia hidrográfica do rio Minho. A realização do Simpósio Ibérico Sobre a Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Minho, com uma periodicidade bienal, é uma das vias para atingir esse objectivo, dado que junta participantes de ambos os países, no sentido de actualizar informação e promover a discussão sobre temas pertinentes para a região, tendo por base os recursos naturais.

O papel do Aquamuseu do Rio Minho, na promoção do conhecimento e como elemento aglutinador da informação e da sua disponibilização aos diferentes agentes locais tem vindo a ser reforçado no contexto regional, com reflexo a nível nacional.

Divulgação de projectos em curso ou já concluídos, abrangendo diferentes temáticas e tendo a bacia hidrográfica do rio Minho como área de intervenção. Promover a discussão sobre a gestão dos recursos naturais e sensibilizar para a importância da preservação da biodiversidade associada ao rio Minho.

Aqui, onde o salmão chega mais a sul no nordeste Atlântico, a apresentação: Salmão do Atlântico: uma ponte entre o Minho e a Galiza? será um convite para que estas duas regiões de Portugal e Espanha se envolvam ainda mais em todas as questões relacionadas com o salmão do Atlântico, incluindo, em 2019, o Ano Internacional do Salmão.
