DNAire is an exciting landscape scale project led by the Aire Rivers Trust and the Environment Agency and partly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The project will build a fish pass on each of four weirs which will enable salmon to recolonise the River Aire.
We will use the compelling story of the return of these iconic fish to engage people and communities along the river to develop a volunteering and river stewardship programme to care for the river.
To complement this we will create a trail between Leeds and Gargrave following the remarkable migration of the salmon.
It will also boost urban and rural regeneration, promote learning and skills development and give economic opportunities whilst revealing and opening up an undervalued public recreational facility.
