The International Year of the Salmon North Pacific Opening Event

Michael Stübgen, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and Ursula Heinen-Esser, Minister for the Environment, Agriculture, Nature Conservation, and Consumer Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia, opened the IYS for Germany on Friday, October 12th at the salmon counting station at the Sieg-Wehr in Buisdorf. Representatives of salmon resettlement programmes from the federal states were invited to the event and pupils were honoured for their commitment to water protection. Afterwards the fish trap of the salmon counting station was presented and interested visitors were invited to visit the exhibition on the migratory fish programme on the Rhine in the "Wissenhaus Wanderfische".
Der Staatssekretär bei der Bundesministerin für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft, Michael Stübgen, und die Ministerin für Umwelt, Landwirtschaft, Natur- und Verbraucherschutz des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, Ursula Heinen-Esser, haben für Deutschland das IYS am Freitag, den 12. Oktober, an der Lachszählstation am Sieg-Wehr in Buisdorf eröffnet. Zu der Veranstaltung waren Vertreter von Lachswiederansiedlungsprogrammen aus den Bundesländern eingeladen. Außerdem wurden Schülerinnen und Schüler für ihr Engagement im Gewässerschutz im Rahmen der Veranstaltung ausgezeichnet. Danach wurde die Fangreuse der Lachszählstation vorgestellt. Im Anschluss konnten Interessierte die Ausstellung über das Wanderfischprogramm im Rhein im Wissenshaus Wanderfische“ besuchen.
