Salmon Comeback
The goal of the “Salmon Comeback!” campaign is the return of the Atlantic salmon to the whole of the upper Rhine river basin.
Originally the
Wow, what a transformation. Through the Allan Water Improvement Project the Trust worked with a local farmer to deliver green river bank restoration on one of the many severely eroding banks of the Allan Water.
It has been transformed from a steep sided, bare river bank into a lush, green banking which has been reprofiled to a more natural state. The Trust worked with the farmer, submitting an Agri Environment Climate Scheme application, then managing and installing the green bank protection works.
This will benefit the river for years to come with habitat for salmonid fish, birds, insects and more whilst reducing the amount of soil being eroded and entering the river, preventing damage to spawning areas.
